When ransomware hit a single healthcare clearinghouse, Change Healthcare, it wasn’t just them – it rippled at national scale across pharmacies, clinics, and insurers. Imagine if a city’s main bridge collapsed; traffic everywhere grinds to a halt. Nearly 193 million people were affected in some way, showing how one weak link can cripple the system.
Lesson learnt: Critical industries like healthcare depend on single points of failure. When one of these hubs is hit, the disruption cascades nationwide, delaying care, straining insurers, and eroding public trust. The Change Healthcare attack proved that one breach can paralyse an entire sector.
3. Snowflake Customers, May–Jun 2024 – ramifications into 2025:
Attackers didn’t need fancy exploits – they simply found stolen usernames and passwords for Snowflake accounts. With them, they targeted campaigns to companies like Santander and Ticketmaster, then put sensitive data up for sale. It’s the equivalent of a thief finding your spare key under the doormat and walking right in.
Lesson learnt: The Snowflake breaches show that attackers don’t always need sophisticated hacks – just stolen logins. Without strong credential protection and mandatory MFA, even global brands can have their customer data stolen and sold. It’s a reminder that basic security hygiene failures can create enterprise-level crises.
